Roller-skating

I think we may have found a new Thursday night activity. Classic skating in Sandy has dollar night on Thursdays. Eliza has been asking to go roller-skating for a while - not sure she actually knew what it was but we thought it would be fun to take her anyway. So for $2 we had a really fun evening. We strapped on the plastic Barbie roller-skates and she and Matt were off!

Since we didn't think it would be a good idea for the the 8 1/2 month pregnant lady to do it, Matt was on his own taking Eliza around and around. I think he was a little rusty at first but he did great and Eliza had such a good time. Just look at those smiles!

Grandma Wilson

Last Wednesday, my sweet 90 year old grandma passed away. We will all miss her so much but this was really a blessing for her. She got quite sick about a month ago and after a week or so in the hospital, she stayed at Care Source hospice which was such a beautiful place for her to spend her last weeks. It happened fast but we were all able to accept it and feel at peace with everything. We are all very thankful she didn't have to linger for months or years the way she was and we know that she is happy and with her loved ones who have gone on before.

We had the funeral on Saturday and it was wonderful. It was a sad, yes, but there were lots of fun memories shared and it was an uplifing and comforting day. My grandma and grandpa's 70th wedding anniversary was the day after her funeral. Amazing! They were married June 21, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. I know he misses her but is also relieved that she is no longer suffering. I think that the saddest thing about when people pass away is that they leave their eternal companions for a while. When his time comes, I know she will be waiting for him. Her whole life was one of service and compassion. Almost every memory I have of my grandma is of her doing something for somebody else. She was a very talented seamstress and I think she made every piece of clothing she ever wore. She loved gardening, golf, and being with her family. We were blessed to have my grandparents live very close by. We were in the same ward and Sunday dinners with them were a regular thing. Grandma was just always there. I'm glad Eliza was able to know her and hopefully she can retain some memory of her as she grows up.

I don't mean for this to sound like an obituary. I just wanted to acknowledge what an amazing woman my grandma was and say how thankful I am to have had her in my life for so long. She taught us all so much and we'll always remember her example. We love you and will miss you grandma!

3 more weeks

Okay, I'm really not a fan of this picture (make that any picture, especially pregnancy ones) but I felt bad that I have hardly any pictures of when I was pregnant with Eliza so I thought I should try and document this one a little better. Also, we were caught in a rainstorm today without umbrellas so that's my other excuse for not liking this.

Anyway, my July 6th due date is sneaking up on us and I can't believe how fast this whole thing has gone by. It seems like with Eliza I was so focused on reading everything I could, decorating and getting everything totally ready and now with this one we're 3 weeks away and barely have anything done. We did buy some diapers and clothes and we have the crib set up finally so I guess the bare necessities are almost covered. We still need to put the infant carseat back in the car and get some things packed for the hospital but we're getting there. Eliza was born right on her due date so I'm kind of counting on this one not coming early (even though some days I wish he would). We're really excited but extrememly nervous. I know what to expect this time but that's not always a good thing either because I know what to expect this time. :)

Eliza is looking forward to having a baby brother. She talks about it all the time and has helped me out a lot. She's really nice to bend over and pick things up for me. That particular movement is getting nearly impossible these days. When we ask her what we should name the baby her answers have been - Bubbles, Sophie, Gizmo (the McCann's cat), Joe, Sprinkles, and nonsense words. Hmm...good thing we've got a couple of weeks to narrow it down.

Well, that wasn't so bad...

Matt and I have not been looking forward to the day when we would confiscate Eliza's binky. We really should have done it sooner because she got in the bad habit of biting it instead of just sucking on it and it was getting pretty thrashed. I knew I needed to just bite the bullet and do it but I'm so tired as it is, I really didn't want her crying and not sleeping on top of everything. I was hoping that she would just lose interest because of the hole in it but when that didn't happen, I got worried about her choking on it. So last Saturday, we took it away in the morning and when she asked for it later on, we told her that it was broken. She is really verbal these days so I figured just explaining it to her was the best way to go. She seemed to accept that explanation and she even took a really good nap that day. Of course, I'm sure it helped that she was up way too late the night before and so she was super tired. But even that night she slept relatively well. I kept waiting for the weeping and wailing that I've heard goes along with this transition but it seems as though we've lucked out. She still asks for it usually once a day but I just say, "Remember, it broke. But that's okay, you don't need it anymore" and then she's fine again. She found a binky we bought for the new baby yesterday and put it in her mouth but pulled it right back out and looked really confused as to why it was so small.

Yay! One less thing to keep track of when we go places.
